Involved in studies assessing new forms of treatment and the role of combination therapy in the management of rheumatoid arthritis. Collaborative studies on the mechanisms of persistence of very early inflammatory arthritis. Founder member of the Birmingham Arthritis Resource Centre (BARC) and involved in community based studies to examine the effect of multicultural information provision on healthcare utilisation funded by the Arthritis Research Campaign.
Include the management of inflammatory joint disease and connective tissue disorders, particularly SLE and the treatment of inflammatory eye disease in close co-operation with the university department of opthalmology, City Hospital.
Currently Deputy Medical Director for Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust and member of the Rheumatology specialist advisory committee, Royal College of Physicians.
